| Work Prep places Joseph in employment |
|
Joseph from Bangor registered with USEL in 2009. Joseph had been unemployed for over five years due to an ongoing health condition and was seeking assistance to help him return to the workplace.
Joseph was assigned to USEL’s Employment Services Officer, Richard McCracken. During his initial registration with Richard it quickly became apparent that Joseph had a passion for music however due to his health condition had been unable to gain employment in this environment.
As Joseph had no previous experience within this field and a strong desire to work within the music industry Richard
registered him for the Work Preparation Programme.
The Work Preparation Programme is a twelve-week programme, which helps people with health related conditions and disabilities move into or return to employment.
The programme includes work preparation training in a group setting followed by the opportunity to take part in a work experience placement within an industry sector chosen by the participant.
The marketing team within USEL contacted suitable employers in the local area and was successful in securing a placement with Oh Yeah Music Centre in Belfast.
Throughout the programme Richard provided ongoing support to Joseph and visited him on a weekly basis to monitor his progress.
During the first few weeks of his placement Joseph’s manager recognised his enthusiasm and knowledge of music and allowed him to take on extra responsibilities outside the administrators position he was initially placed in.
Stuart Bailey, Joseph’s manager at Oh Yeah commented, "Joseph has proved himself to be an asset to the organisation. He has met and exceeded all of our
expectations of him whilst showing focus and dedication despite his health condition”.
Upon completion of the programme Joseph was offered a full time position with the organisation. He is now involved in all aspects of the operations within Oh Yeah and with the continuing support of USEL has become a valued and integral member of the organisation.
