| USEL launches New Work Preparation Programme |

USEL is pleased to announce that it has been succesful in its bid to acquire funding to deliver a Work Preparation Programme within North and West Belfast. The Department for Employment and Learning's Disablement Advisory Service will fund this exciting programme for 2 years. USEL will deliver the Work Preparation Programme from its Headquarter base at 182 Cambrai Street, Belfast and from newly acquired premises at 134b Andersonstown Road, (Beside Andersonstown Leisure Centre) in West Belfast. The programme may also be delivered from other community/voluntary group bases, depending on the numbers of people interested in participating in the activities.
The Work Preparation Programme aims to give people with disabilities who live in North and West Belfast the opportunity to take part in a programme that will help prepare them for work. Each person will be given appropriate support to ensure they are comfortable. Each person attending the programme will also be given the opportunity to sample real work in an area of their choosing.
There will be an opportunity to explore work placements in a variety of occupational areas that are designed to meet the needs of the person
Examples of the taught lessons on the programme are: Confidence Building Why Work? Interview Skills Communication Skills Identifying Personal Strengths, Skills and Abilities Work Attitude and Behaviours Job Seeking and Retention Skills
Work Placements will build and develop on the taught lessons as well as providing hands on experience. They will help give the person an opportunity to assess how ready they are for work and whether or not the work placement chosen is suited to the individual.
