USEL has been successful in obtaining funding from the European Social Fund to deliver the organisation’s STEP (Skills Training for Employment Progression) programme. This project aims to assist a total of 705 disabled people across Northern Ireland gain greater access to employment opportunities by providing accredited training, skills acquisition, job match and in-work support services necessary to progress into competitive inclusive paid work environments.
The STEP project offers people with disabilities or health conditions who are long-term unemployed the opportunity to gain employment skills and qualifications by offering:
· 135 fully paid fixed term traineeships within a wide range of employment environments that are located throughout the Province. This will offer participants the opportunity to benefit from the chance to achieve on-the-job paid work experience, skills and qualifications in order to open up their path into sustained employment.
· A further 555 individuals will have the opportunity to access accredited training delivered within local community group or employer locations and through learning hubs established in USEL’s Belfast, Londonderry, Portadown and Omagh locations. Movement from training into employment will be facilitated through USEL’s employment related programmes.
· 15 Mentors who will undertake the project tasks will also receive training accreditations to support participant learning and project outcomes.
This exciting programme will open up opportunities on a regional basis for people who have difficulty in accessing work in a highly competitive marketplace.
