USEL's delivery of the Department for Employment and Learning's Work Preparation Programme is continuing to help people with disabilities or health related conditions return to employment.
A recent survey carried out by the organisation demonstrated that the training participants received while on the programme was an enabling factor in helping them move back into the work environment.
Launched in 2006 Work Preparation is a voluntary programme which aims to assist people on incapacity benefits return to work. Each programme lasts for twelve weeks and includes work preparation training and support followed by the opportunity for participants to take part in a work experience placement in an industry sector chosen by the participant.
Training sessions include communication skills, interview techniques, presentation skills and CV preparation.
Results of the survey indicated that all the participants who had completed the training had found the sessions to be relevant in assisting their search for employment with 90% of participants stating they were much more confident about finding work compared with before they went on the programme.
All of the participants responded that upon completion of the training their ability to secure employment was improved. One participant commented “The training gave me a lot more confidence to apply for jobs and face employers”.
Results from the survey clearly indicate that the training received is helping participants regain their confidence and providing them with the relevant work skills to allow them to return to employment.
