| PROGRESSING THE VIPP TREATMENT |
|
USEL is one of 5 European partners participating in the VIPP Project, which stands for Vocational Improvement Pipelines Project.
This pilot project, funded for 2 years under the European Leonardo da Vinci programme funding stream, aims to engage participants with a range of health conditions and disabilities in both generic and sector-specific work-ready skills in a number of industry sectors. USEL’s vocational pipeline is in the retail sector.
The VIPP project commenced in September 2005 and will be completed in September 2007, during which time a total of 14 local individuals have participated in a tailored 12 week training and work placement programme in conjunction with some of the largest retailers in Northern Ireland. During this process, participants have gained skills in job search, CV writing, interview techniques and workplace behaviours, as well as completing a retail-specific training module including sales transactions, assisting customers make stock choices, and stock storage and display.
The success of the project’s outcomes is now being realised, as all VIPP partner organisations work together to disseminate the data surrounding the impact of the vocational pipelines in each sector. Once compiled, this information will be available via a CD-Rom.
The project’s partners will be promoting the VIPP Project at the forthcoming EUSE Conference to be held in Belfast in June 2007.
