| Bryson House and USEL partnership launch White Goods Pilot |
|
This pilot project emerged from a feasibility study commissioned by Belfast Local Strategy Partnership to test the commercial viability of a white goods (washing machines, driers, cookers and fridges) refurbishment programme.
Bryson Charitable Group in conjunction with USEL with support from Belfast City Council’s Better Belfast programme and BLSP Peace 2 funding, have developed a pilot that will trial this project on a city-wide basis.
The project will source used white goods through retailers, donations and through established take-back schemes to:
· Reduce the number of used units going to land refill
· Increase the number of units that will be re-used through refurbishment
· Divert all remaining waste to recycling facilities
The project will refurbish 1750 units during the pilot and will seek to create employment and training opportunities for those furthest removed from the labour market, whilst producing quality refurbished and guaranteed products at affordable prices for those most in need.
