| 'Connectability' Research Report Launched |
|
USEL was pleased to launch its 'Connectability' Research report in March 2004. This report was made possible by USEL joining forces with Lloyds TSB Foundation for NI and the Belfast Institute for Further and Higher Education's Centre for Applied Research and Development.
Lloyds TSB Foundation for NI, one of the largest independent funders for the Voluntary Sector generously funded the user-led project that sought to explore the barriers that restrict disabled people who wish to enter training and paid employment
The results of the survey found that the sample of employers and disabled people who have entered into an employee relationship were positive about the supports in the workplace. However, the project foundd that there was a need to develop a greater level of disability awareness, particularly in the area of career progression. Problems were also identified in the recruitment processes traditionally used by employers.
New and innovative ideas were called for to provide disabled people with equality of opportunity in the above process. 57.5% of the sample of disabled people indicated they had experienced difficulties or barriers in finding work, whilst 72% of employers stated that they never had doubts or worries about employing a disabled person.
The full 'Connectability' research report is available in hard copy form from USEL and is also available as a pdf document at USEL's Corporate web page. |
